Hiking in LA?
7 of us went hiking today in the Santa Monica Mountains.
We drove up the Pacific Coast High Way (the PCH) and ended up a little past Pepperdine University.
Our hike lasted over 3 hours and ended up being a really fun day. A lot of it was pretty flat, till we decided to keep going up and were basically rock climbing to the top. We had to slide down on our bottoms to avoid falling down the mountain (i have a big bruise to prove it on the back of my thigh =)
Here are a few pics from the day... more on facebook

Pics from the weekend
First stop after work on friday...Pinkberry
roomies at the "stash or sash" party in Venice on Friday night
for the Falling Whistles party (http://www.fallingwhistles.com/)

crowd shot...

the live music that was there...

A friend of the people throwing the party showed some of his short movies...all really good....(http://www.alexbeh.com/)

sat morning got to wake up and go to the TOMS pop up store to pick out our first free pair of shoes
a few of us went to brunch here after....REALLY good

went down to 3rd street for the rest of the day to walk around/shop/eat more pinkberry and i got to meet a monkey....

spent sat evening at the beach and finally got to see the sunset

The rest of the weekend I went to Susans (our family friends) house to spend the night on saturday. I watched Revolutionary Road (hated it), Frost/Nixon and hours of CNN coverage of Obamarama.
I didn't realize how disconnected I was to the outside world till today and had not seen a minute of coverage of anything going on in DC.
It was good to have this time today to just zone out and catch myself up with the non TOMS world.
Week 2 of work starts tomorrow!
PS. mom and dad (And all else who are concerned) I have been hive free since sat morning! Not one spot on me. Yay steroids!

Emma VS Hives
Day 5 and the Hives are really over staying their visit!
I wake up with them everywhere and i go to bed with them everywhere. During the day they do seem to disappear while i'm at work, but it still is not fun.
After day 3 i decided i should put my health care (thank you kevin lackey) to use and find a doctor. This was no where to be found on my things to do in LA list while i am here by the way
I went today and missed most of the work day to drive to Dr. Ryan's office. She decided it was for sure some allergic reaction and put me on methylprednisolone for the next 5 days.
By the way Dr Ryan is from chicago and in her spare time writes screenplays. Who doesn't in LA!??!?
So far i'm only on pill #2 and i'm feeling better.
I do have a follow up appointment on Wednesday, so keep your fingers crossed that this will be over by then.
It may be in the 80's right now, but when HIVES are taking over your body, it really puts a BIG damper on any possibility of a fun LA life. I also can only imagine the impression i am making on all of my new roommates.... =/

My thoughts go out to you all who are living in the Arctic right now. I'll try to send some of this warmth your way =)
Happy Weekend

High today....83`
*I'm on top of my bunk bed right now covered in hives...yep, hives.
I started breaking out last night and by morning they were everywhere!! They remind me of my hives from junior year at Mizzou when i broke out every night the cardinals were in the playoffs. I have no idea what is causing them and would love any suggestions on how to get rid of them.
*A few of us (my roomies) went to IN-N-OUT burger last night for dinner. I know many of you are going to hate me for saying this, but i think i'm a bigger fan of Whataburger. I'll give it another try before I make my final decision.
* And yes, I'm very excited for Slumdog Millionaires clean up at the Globes on Sunday night. Again, if you haven't seen this movie you are missing out!!

I'm here!
It's day 4 and here i am in cali! Tomorrow is the first day of work, but i will try to answer as many questions as i can right now....
Where do you live?
325 Waterview St,
Playa Del Rey, CA 90293
no joke, the beach is a 10min walk away. You walk up and down a hill and you are there.
YES, this is the address you can send me letters, packages, stl things that i can not find in LA, etc. Help me be the cool roommate that gets mail ;)
Who do you live with?
i live with 15 other people = 16 total!!!! Yep, it's the toms version of the real world. We live together and We work together. Everyone comes from all over the country and one intern comes from Australia!!
When do you work?
We work M-F, 10-6. Our first day is tomorrow so i will know more about what my exact job/duties will be while i am here.
Does it suck not having a car?
Yes it does. Out of all of us we have 6 drivers, so we're getting out and about, but besides the beach not much fun stuff is in walking distance. I'm in the process of getting a bike from our wonderful family friend Susan, so that will help to not feel 15 and i'll be able to ride the beach bike paths to Santa Monica and Venice.
How is the weather?
It's perfect. The first night it was a little chilly and i was wearing a coat. But since friday it's been over 75 each day.
What have you been doing and why are you not calling people back?
i've been keeping busy settling in and getting to know all of my roommates over the past couple of days. TOMS took us out to dinner our first night here and our 2nd night all the interns went out to a bar in Venice.
I also have just been leaving my phone in my room and forgetting to bring it with me. I'm a little bummed right now that as i type this the golden globes are on in st louis but i have to wait 2hrs for them to start in LA. Ironic, since they are being taped 30min away.
Besides that, LA is pretty great.
I miss everybody...a lot.
I had a little freak out on the plane when i was coming here that this is not a vacation and that i really have to build a little life here. I wish i could be sharing this with so many of you all, but hopefully you can get a good idea of what i am up to with the help of this blog and pictures i'll try to post up.
More to come very soon....
